(6-Methoxynaphthalen-2-yl)-(1-trityl-1H-imidazol-4-yl)ketone (15.0 g) was dissolved in THF (80 ml) and 90% formic acid (20 ml) was added. The mixture was stirred at 50° C. for 2 h and the solvent was evaporated. 1N Hydrochloric acid (60 ml) was added and the precipitate was filtrated. The filtrate was washed with ether and neutralized with potassium carbonate. The resulting precipitate was collected by filtration and dried under reduced pressure to give the title compound (7.54 g) as a colorless solid.
