Procedure
A mixture of 1-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-5-(4-methylsulfonyl-phenyl)-3-trifluoromethyl-1H-1,2,4-triazole (10 g, 25.2 mmol), 48% aqueous HBr (70 ml) and acetic acid (70 ml) was heated at 120° C. for 55 h. Then HBr 48% (20 ml) and AcOH (20 ml) were added and the mixture was heated again at 120° C. for 2 h. After cooling the solution was poured into water (2 l), the precipitate was filtered, washed several times with water and dried. Recrystallization from ethanol yielded a white solid (7.5 g, 78%).
