2 g (11.4 mmol) of the hydroxyaldehyde obtained in Step A and also 2.7 g (13.6 mmol) of iodopentane are added to a suspension of 1.9 g (13.6 mmol) of potassium carbonate in 50 ml of anhydrous acetone; the medium is then heated at reflux. After one hour, 1.2 g of potassium carbonate are added to the solution, and that operation is then re-started after one hour. At the end of 12 hours of heating at reflux, the solution is allowed to cool, the salts are filtered off over Celite and the solvent is then evaporated in vacuo. Chromatography on a silica column (eluant: petroleum ether/ethyl acetate 90/10) yields the title aldehyde in the form of a yellow syrup.
