To a solution of 2-(4-tert-butylbenzoylamino)-4-[[N-(tert-butyloxycarbonyl)-L-phenylalanyl]amino]-N-(4-methoxyphenyl)benzamide (112 mg, 0.17 mmol) in methylene chloride (5 mL) was added trifluoroacetic acid (0.065 mL, 0.84 mmol). After 1.5 h, an additional portion of trifluoroacetic acid (0.50 mL, 6.5 mmol) was added and the resulting mixture stirred for 1 h. The mixture was concentrated in vacuo to give 144 mg (100%) of the title compound as a tan solid.
