The title compound was prepared according to the procedure described in step 2 of Example 8 (Method A) from methyl trans-5-chloro-2-(phenylsulfonylamino)cinnamate (step 3) and 2-bromoacetyl-4-methylpyridine hydrobromide (F. H. Case et al., J. Am. Chem. Soc., 1956, 78, 5842).
