A yellow suspension of methyl[6-chloro-2-(4-ethylpyridine-2-carbonyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]acetate (Example 57, 297 mg, 0.83 mmol) in 2N aqueous sodium hydroxide (2.5 ml) and ethanol (20 ml) was heated at reflux temperature for 3 h. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was neutralized with 2N aqueous hydrochloric acid (2.5 ml) and concentrated. The residue was diluted with THF (150 ml), dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The residual solids were recrystallization from ethyl acetate to give 251 mg (88%) of the title compound as yellow solids.
