Procedure

A mixture of methyl[5-chloro-2-(1-methylpyrrole-2-carbonyl)-1H-indol-3-yl]acetate (Example 251, 250 mg, 0.79 mmol) and potassium carbonate (900 mg, 6.4 mmol) in methanol-water (1:1, 40 ml) was heated at reflux temperature for 1 h. After cooling to room temperature, the mixture was concentrated. The residue was neutralized with 2N aqueous HCl and extracted with ethyl acetate (50 ml×2) The combined extracts were dried (MgSO4) and concentrated. The residual solids were recrystallized from ethyl acetate/hexane to afford 40 mg (23%) of the title compound as pale yellow solids.
