Procedure
A suspension of 10% Pd/C (3.80 g) and 2-benzyl-7-methoxy-4-(4-methoxy-phenyl)-1,2,3,4-tetrahydroisoquinoline (3.87 g, 10.8 mmol, see Example 80) in EtOH (160 ml) was hydrogenated at 50 p.s.i. for 12 hours. The catalyst was removed via filtration through diatomaceous earth and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo. Purification via flash chromatography (Biotage , SiO2, 9:1 EtOAc:MeOH then 1:1 EtOAc:MeOH) gave the title product (2.19 g, 8.13 mmol, 76% yield).
