To a solution of 2-(4,4-dimethylcyclohexyl)ethyl 4-bromobenzenesulfonate (Preparation 16, 410 mg, 1 mmol) in acetone (100 ml) was added sodium iodide (370 mg, 2.5 mmol), and the mixture was heated under reflux for 3 h. After allowing the reaction mixture to cool to room temperature, the mixture was filtered and the filtrate was diluted with water (500 ml) and extracted with diethyl ether (500 ml). The organic extract was dried (MgSO4), filtered and concentrated in vacuo to afford the title compound as a colourless oil (220 mg, 83%).
