Procedure
10.6 Grams of 3-(methylsulfinyl)propylamine hydrobromide, 5.6 g of triethylamine and 100 ml of acetone were charged in a flask equipped with a stirrer, a condenser and a calcium chloride drying tube and stirred at room temperature. To the resulting solution was slowly added dropwise 14.8 g of octadecyl isocyanate. After completion of the addition, the temperature of the solution was returned to room temperature, followed by refluxing with heating for 2 hours. The reaction mixture was cooled to room temperature, and the precipitated crystal was filtered off under reduced pressure and washed with distilled water. The crystal was recrystallized from 2-propanol to obtain 14.9 g of the desired product. m.p. 105° C.
