Procedure
In a 50 mL round-bottomed flask was dissolved methyl 2-((5S,6S)-5-(tert-butoxycarbonylamino)-6-(2,3-difluorophenyl)-6,7-dihydro-5H-cyclohepta[b]pyrazin-9-yl)acetate (5) in 4:1 tetrahydrofuran/methanol (2.5 mL). Lithium hydroxide (0.588 mL, 0.588 mmol) was added and the mixture was stirred at rt for 16 h. LCMS indicated complete conversion. The mixture was concentrated and further dried under a high vacuum to remove water to give a slightly orange solid, which was directly carried on to the next step.
