Hydrogen peroxide (30 wt % solution in water, 38.0 ml, 372 mmol) was added to a suspension of 3H-imidazo[4,5-b]pyridine (4.93 g, 41.4 mmol) in AcOH (40 mL) at room temperature. The resulting reaction mixture was stirred at 80° C. for 3 h, cooled to RT and concentrated in vacuo to a volume ˜50 mL. Concentration to dryness was done using a stream of N2. The resulting residue was suspended in water (˜10 mL). Filtration afforded the title compound (4.61 g, 82.4% yield).
