A mixture of (S)-methyl 2-(benzyloxycarbonylamino)-4,4-difluoro-5-phenylpentanoate (188 mg, 0.5 mmol) and hydrogen bromide (2 mL) was stirred at RT for two hr, after which the solvent was removed to give the title (S)-methyl 2-amino-4,4-difluoro-5-phenylpentanoate hydrobromide.
