Procedure
To a mixture of 5-(2,6-difluorophenyl)-3-methoxy-1-methyl-1H-pyrazole-4-carboxaldehyde (0.25 g, 0.99 mmol) (i.e. the product of Step D) in tetrahydrofuran (5 mL) at −30° C. was added 4-fluoro-2-methylphenylmagnesium bromide (0.5 M in hexanes, 2.0 mL, 1.0 mmol). The reaction mixture was allowed to warm to 0° C., quenched with saturated ammonium chloride solution and concentrated under reduced pressure. The resulting material was diluted with dichloromethane and water, poured onto a solid phase extraction tube (Varian Chem Elute®, prepacked with diatomaceous earth) and eluted with dichloromethane. The dichloromethane eluant was concentrated under reduced pressure and the resulting material purified by silica gel chromatography (0 to 100% gradient of ethyl acetate in dichloromethane as eluant) to provide the title compound (0.3 g).
