Biphenyl-2-ylcarbamic acid 1-[2-(2-chloro-4-{[(r)-2-hydroxy-2-(8-hydroxy-2-oxo-1,2-dihydroquinolin-5-yl)ethylamino]methyl}-5-methoxyphenylcarbamoyl)-ethyl]piperidin-4-yl ester (5 g, 6.75 mmol, >99% pure) was dissolved in isopropanol (100 mL), followed by addition of ethane disulfonic acid dihydrate (1.525 mg, 6.75 mmol) dissolved in water (20 mL). The resulting slurry was stirred at room temperature for 1 hour, and then at ˜30° C. overnight. The title compound (6.0 g) was isolated as a white powder. The product was heated in 20% water in isopropanol (100 mL) at 30° C. for 48 hours. After cooling to room temperature, the resulting precipitate was isolated by filtration and dried in air for 2 hours to yield the title compound (5.4 g).
