The 2-benzothiazol-2-yl-3-chloro-3-(4-nitrophenyl)-acrylonitrile (500 mg, 1.46 mmol) prepared above and hydrazine hydrate (150 mg, 3 mmol) were refluxed in ethanol (15 mL) for 6 hrs. The solvent was evaporated and the residue was purified by flash column chromatography eluting with CH2Cl2:MeOH=9:1 to yield 182 mg (37%) of the title compound as a yellow solid. MS (m/z, ES+): 338.04 (M+1, 100%).
