To a solution of tert-butyl-4-(3-(4-(5-methyl-1H-tetrazol-1-yl)phenoxy)-2-oxopyrrolidin-1-yl)piperidine-1-carboxylate (621 mg, 1.4 mmol) in DCM (15 mL) was added excess 4N HCl in dioxane (5 mL). The reaction was stirred for 4 hours and then concentrated in vacuo to yield (S)-3-(4-(5-methyl-1H-tetrazol-1-yl)phenoxy)-1-(piperidin-4-yl)pyrrolidin-2-one hydrochloride salt (501 mg, 94%) as an off white solid, which was used without any further purification.
