Procedure

Diphenylmethyl bromide (0.1 mol; 24.75 g) was dissolved in 25 ml of tetrahydrofuran and placed in a flask together with N-pyridylethanolamine (0.05 mole-6.9 g) and 0.5 ml of catalytic N-methylimidazol, and then left for 72 hours in a dryer at temperature of 65° C. The product of this reaction was purified on a column filled with silica gel 60 of a particle size 70-230 mesh. Methanol gradient in methylene chloride was used as an eluting phase. Then the fractions containing the product of the reaction (N-pyridyl-N-[diphenylmethyl]aminoethanol) were isolated and combined. The excess of solvent was evaporated. The compound was characterized by means of the 1HNMR and 13CNMR spectra, presented in FIG. 9. 19.03 g were obtained (a yield of 62%).
