Procedure

To the product from Step D (1.10 g, 2.46 mmol) in 20 mL of methanol was added 20% palladium hydroxide on carbon (940 mg). The solution was stirred at room temperature under an atmosphere of hydrogen for 1.5 hours, then purged with argon. The mixture was filtered through celite, the filter pad was washed with methanol, and the filtrate was concentrated in vacuo to produce the crude material as a white solid.
