Benzo[b]thiophene-2-carbonyl chloride (4.9 g, 25 mmol) was added to a stirred solution of L-leucine methyl ester (4.5 g, 25 mmol) and diisopropylethylamine (9 ml, 51 mmol) in DCM (200 ml). After stirring for 2 hours at room temperature, the mixture was poured into water and washed with brine and dried (MgSO4). Evaporation under reduced pressure afforded the title compound as a white solid, 7.6 g, 100% yield.
