Procedure
1.17 g of succinic anhydride and then 1.19 cm3 of N-methylpiperazine are added to 20 cm3 of dioxane. After stirring for 18 hours at room temperature, the precipitate obtained is filtered, rinsed with a minimum of dioxane and then, successively, with twice 10 cm3 of acetone and 10 cm3 of diethyl ether. After drying under reduced pressure (2.7 kPa) at 20° C., 1.09 g of 4-(4-methylpiperazin-1-yl)4-oxobutyric acid are obtained in the form of a white solid melting at 114° C.
