Procedure
In 5 ml of ethanol was dissolved in 1.40 g of ethyl 2,2-dimethyl-5-[p-(2-methyl-4-thiazolyl)phenoxy]pentanoate obtained in EXAMPLE 5. The solution was added to an aqueous sodium hydroxide solution (0.4 g of sodium hydroxide in 5 ml of water) and the mixture refluxed for 10 hours. After cooling, the precipitated crystals was washed with water to obtain the desired product, sodium 2,2-dimethyl-5-[p-(2-methyl-4-thiazolyl)phenoxy]pentanoate as white crystals.
