A 100 mL flask was charged with 4-(2-bromoethoxy)-2-nitroaniline (2.2 g, 8.4 mmol) in THF (20 mL) and 4-N-boc-piperazine (1.56 g, 8.4 mmol) was added and stirred at room temperature. The reaction was monitored by LCMS. After 30 minutes, the reaction mixture was treated with deionized water (100 mL) and sonicated. The resulting solid was collected by filtration and dried at reduced pressure to give 1.75 g of tert-butyl 4-(2-(4-amino-3-nitrophenoxy)ethyl)piperazine-1-carboxylate (59% yield). MS (EI): 367 (MH+).
