To a solution of 4-amino-2-methylsulfanyl-pyrimidine-5-carbonitrile (229a) (200 mg, 1.2 mmol) in DME (10 ml) were added 4-bromomethyl-benzoic acid methyl ester (274 mg, 1.2 mmol) and K2CO3 (663 mg, 4.8 mmol) at room temperature. The reaction mixture was heated at 100° C. for 5 h, overnight at 60° C., cooled, filtered and concentrated in vacuo. The crude product was used in the next reaction without further purification. LRMS: 314.3 (calc.); 315.3 (obt.) (MH)+.
