A similar procedure as described in Example 43, step 5 was used, starting from 4-[2-(2-ethoxycarbonyl-ethyl)-3-[6-(3-ethoxy-5-thiophen-3-yl-phenoxy)-hexyl]-phenoxy]-butyric acid ethyl ester (150 mg, 0.25 mmol) and 1.0 N aqueous sodium hydroxide (2.5 mL) to afford 4-[2-(2-carboxy-ethyl)-3-[6-(3-ethoxy-5-thiophen-3-yl-phenoxy)-hexyl]-phenoxy]-butyric acid (136 mg, 99%) as a light brown waxy solid: ES(+)-HRMS m/e calcd for C31H38O7S (M+H)+ 555.2411, found 555.2410.
