(E)-3-(3′-Adamantan-1-yl-4′-cyanomethoxybiphenyl-4-yl)-acrylic acid methyl ester (240 mg, 0.56 mmol) was added to a solution of LiOH.H2O (117 mg, 2.8 mmol) in 24 ml of THF:H2O 1:1. The solution thus obtained was kept under stirring at RT overnight. THF was removed under reduced pressure and the resulting aqueous layer acidified with 1N HCl to allow the formation of the title compound as a white precipitate that was filtered (216 mg, 93%).
