Procedure

A mixture of 4-[benzyl-(1H-indol-5-yl)-amino]-piperidine-1-carboxylic acid ethyl ester (100 mg, 0.265 mmol) and lithium aluminum hydride (1.0 M in THF, 1.06 mL) in THF (5.0 mL) was heated under nitrogen atmosphere to reflux. After 2.5 hours the reaction mixture was cooled and quenched by addition of Na2SO4.10H2O. The resulting mixture was filtered and the inorganic salts were washed with a mixture of MeOH and DCM. The filtrate was evaporated under reduced pressure and the crude residue was purified by flash chromatography to give 54.3 mg (64% yield) of benzyl-(1H-indol-5-yl)-(1-methyl-piperidin-4-yl)-amine, MS=320 [M+H]+.
