4-Chloro-5-fluoro-2-nitrophenyl methyl ether (2.19 g, 10.7 mmol) was dissolved in DMSO (10 mL). K2CO3 (2.2 g, 16 mmol) and 1,4′-bipiperidine (1.8 g, 11 mmol) were added and the reaction mixture was allowed to stir overnight at rt. The mixture was then poured into H2O and extracted with EtOAc (2×) and then the combined organics were extracted with H2O (5×). The organic layer was dried with MgSO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuo. The resulting residue was adsorbed onto silica gel and flash chromatographed to give the title compound of step C (2.69 g, 71%). MS (M+H, ES+) 354.
