To 1-[3-(ethyloxy)-4-nitrophenyl]piperazine (Example 143, step A) (0.405 g, 1.61 mmol) in 10 mL of dioxane was added, 1-iodopropane (0.55 g, 3.22 mmol). The mixture was heated to 102° C. for 1 h. The solvent was rotovaped down and the crude product was purified by flash chromatography to give the title compound of step A (0.422 g, 1.44 mmol, 90%). 1H NMR (400 MHz, CD3OD) δ ppm 7.88 (d, J=9.34 Hz, 1H), 6.53 (dd, J=9.34, 2.56 Hz, 1H), 6.49 (d, J=2.56 Hz, 1H), 4.16 (q, J=7.02 Hz, 2H), 3.42-3.48 (m, 4H), 2.64-2.70 (m, 4H), 2.40-2.48 (m, 2H), 1.54-1.64 (m, 2H), 1.42 (t, J=6.96 Hz, 3H), 0.94 (t, J=7.42 Hz, 3H).
