A solution of 2-chloro-5-(2,4-dichloro-phenyl)-isonicotinonitrile (453 mg, 1.6 mmol) and hydrazine monohydrate (7.76 mL, 160 mmol) in dioxane (9 mL) was heated at 90° C. and stirred for 14 h. The reaction mixture was cooled to RT, poured into water (50 mL) and extracted with AcOEt (3×25 mL). The combined organic fractions were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and evaporated to provide the crude title compound (520 mg, quant.) as a yellow solid, which was used without further purification. MS: 279 [M+1]+; HPLC: AtRet=1.44.
