A mixture of 1H-indole-5-carbonitrile (1.42 g, 10 mmol), ethyl 3-bromopropanoate (1.92 ml, 15 mmol) and cesium carbonate (6.5 g, 20 mmol) in DMF (50 ml) was heated at 80° C. for 4 hours. Cooled the solution, added diethyl ether (300 ml) and washed with water (3×300 ml). Dried over MgSO4 and evaporated off the solvent to yield 2.4 g of pale orange oil. This crude product was used in the next stage (preparation of D52).
