A mixture of 1-(difluoromethyl)-8-phenyl[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]-1,5-naphthyridin-7(6H)-one (10-1) (19 g, 61 mmol) and POCl3 (28 mL, 304 mmol) in acetonitrile (95 mL) was heated under microwave irradiation at 140° C. for 2 hours. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure, and to the residue was added water. The resulting solid was collected by filtration to give 7-chloro-1-(difluoromethyl)-8-phenyl[1,2,4]triazolo[4,3-a]-1,5-naphthyridine (10-2) as pale yellow solid.
