Procedure

Hydrazine hydrate (10 g, 0.2 mol) was added to a solution of 1-(3,4,5-trimethoxyphenyl)-1,2-ethanedione 2-oxime (24 g, 0.1 mol) in ethanol (100 ml) and the reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature for 5 hours. Water was added; the precipitated solid was filtered off, washed with water and dried. Yield 10.8 g (43%). δH (DMSO-d6): 3.65 (s, 3H), 3.81 (s, 6H), 6.81 (s, 2H), 8.32 (s, 1H), 8.94 (s, 2H), 11.6 (s, 1H).
