To a solution of benzyl (5)-1-hydroxy-3-((R)-tetrahydro-2H-pyran-3-yl)propan-2-ylcarbamate (26 g, 69.99 mmol) and triethylamine (21.21 g, 210 mmol) in CH2Cl2 at 0° C. was added mesyl chloride (16.1 g, 140 mmol) dropwise. The reaction mixture was stirred at room temperature until the staring material disappeared. The reaction was quenched with ice-cold water, extracted with CH2Cl2 (3×100 ml), washed with water (3×50 ml), dried over Na2SO4, and concentrated in vacuo to give the product (36 g), which was used for the next step without purification.
