In a flame dried round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stir bar and under inert atmosphere (N2), a solution of 1-(4-chloromethyl-thiazol-2-yl)-ethanol (1.09 g, 6.15 mmol) in AcCN (61.0 mL) was treated at rt with MnO2 (2.97 g, 30.76 mmol) and the reaction mixture was stirred for 16 h at rt before being filtered through Celite. The solvent was removed under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a yellow oil. LC-MS-conditions 02: tR=0.84 min, [M+H]+=176.41.
