In a flame dried round-bottomed flask equipped with a magnetic stir bar and under inert atmosphere (N2), 5-(2-methyl-[1,3]dioxolan-2-yl)-thiazole-2-carbaldehyde (555 mg, 2.79 mmol) was dissolved in MeOH (5 mL). NaBH4 (136 mg, 3.46 mmol) was added portionwise at 0° C. and the reaction mixture stirred at rt for 1 h. Water (10 mL) was added and the mixture extracted with EA (3×20 mL). The combined org. extracts were dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and the solvents were removed under reduced pressure to give the title compound as a yellow oil. TLC:rf (1:1 hept-EA)=0.25. LC-MS-conditions 02: tR=0.64 min; [M+H]+=202.48.
