218 g of compound 4 and 409 g of 3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzoyl chloride are dissolved in 2L of anhydrous methylene chloride. Slowly add 287 g of tin(IV) chloride. Stir at room temperature for 12 hours and pour into 3L of ice-water. Wash the organic phase with 5% sodium bicarbonate solution and then with 2N HCl. Dry over sodium sulfate. Evaporate. The product is crystallized from ethanol.
