Procedure
According to example 54, 0.23 g of 2-cyclopentyl-L-phenylalanine.HCl was treated with 25 mL of isobutylene in 20 mL of 1,4-dioxane in the presence of 0.13 mL of conc. H2SO4. Work-up afforded a clear oil which was dissolved in 20 mL of ether. The solution was treated with 1 mL of 1 M ethereal HCl and concentrated in vacuo to dryness to afford 0.28 g (100%) of tert-butyl 2-cyclopentyl-L-phenylalaninate.HCl as a light yellow glass.
