Procedure
0.17 g of lithium hydroxide was added to a methanol (30 ml) solution including 1 g (3.2 mmole) of ethyl 4-{2-oxo-2-[(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)amino]ethoxy}benzoate, and reaction was then carried out at 60° C. for 2 hours. After the solvent had been removed, the residue was dissolved in water and then neutralized with hydrochloric acid, and the deposited solid was collected by filtration, washed with water, and then dried to obtain 0.73 g (yield: 79%) of 4-{2-oxo-2-[(pyridin-3-ylmethyl)amino]ethoxy}benzoic acid.
