Procedure
To a solution of 2-hydroxy-4-methyl-6-trichloromethyl-[1,3,5]triazine (1.14 g, 5.0 mmol; J. Amer. Chem. Soc. 1956, 78, 2447) and triethylamine (0.51 g, 5.5 mmol) in dichloromethane was added methanesulfonyl chloride (0.57 g, 5.0 mmol) at 0° C. and stirred for 1 h then quenched in saturated aqueous sodium bicarbonate. The separated organic layer was washed once with saturated sodium chloride, dried over magnesium sulfate and filtered. The filtrate was evaporated to give the title compound of Example 242, Step A as an orange oil, 0.98 g (65%) which was used directly without any further purification. MS (Cl) 291,293 (MH+).
