Procedure
Four and five tenths (4.5) grams of 5-phenyl oxazolidine contained in 44.7 g. of benzene solution was mixed with 3.1 g. of triethylamine and stirred in a room temperature water bath, while 5.2 g. of 3-bromopropionyl chloride was added dropwise. After standing for about 30 minutes, the solution was washed with water, separated, dried over magnesium sulfate and the solvent stripped under vacuum. There was obtained a yield of 6 g. of an oil, the title compound, ND30 =1.5591.
