Procedure
To a stirred suspension of 10.0 g of 3,7-dichloro-2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxide in 100 ml of water is added 8.0 g of 1-methylpiperazine, while the mixture is cooled in an ice bath. After the addition, the mixture is stirred at 60° C. for 1 hour. The crystalline precipitate collected is recrystallized from a mixture of dimethylformamide and water to give 11.0 g of the desired product, m.p. above 300° C.
