Procedure

To a suspension of 3.0 g of 7-chloro-3-(4-methyl-1-piperazinyl)-2H-1,2,4-benzothiadiazine 1,1-dioxide in 12 ml of water is added dropwise 1.5 ml of concentrated hydrochloric acid. The mixture is heated on a stream bath until it becomes a clear solution, which precipitates crystals on cooling. There is obtained 3.1 g of the desired product, m.p. 277°-281° C. (decomposition).
