Procedure
4-Ethoxycarbonyl-5-phenoxycarbonylamino-3-n-propylisothiazol hydrobromide (41.5 g.) was heated at reflux in ethanolic methylamine (33% w/v; 100 ml.) for 15 minutes. The solution was filtered and on cooling deposited white crystals, which were filtered off and washed with water to give 1-(4-ethoxycarbonyl-3-n-propylisothiazol-5-yl)-3-methylurea (18.5 g.), m.p. 173°-174° C.
