A solution of 4-{N-[1H-imidazol-1-yl]-N-[(6-methoxy-benzothien-3-yl)methyl]amino}benzonitrile (0.50 g, 1.39 mmol) in 10 ml of methylene chloride is added at room temperature to a solution 1M of boron tribromide in methylene chloride (1.50 ml, 1.52 mmol). After 2 h at room temperature the mixture was hydrolysed with saturated aqueous NaHCO3, extracted with dichloromethane, dried over Na2SO4, filtered, and concentrated in vacuum. The crude product was purified by flash chromatography on silica gel (toluene/dioxan:6/4) to give the expected product (0.30 g, 62%, powder). Crystallization with ethanol yielded white crystalsl (0.10 g, mp: 169° C.).
