A mixture of 2,4,5-trimethylthiazole (1.3 g, 10 mmol) and n-butyl iodide (7.4 g, 40 mmol) in anhydrous acetonitrile (30 mL) was refluxed for 72 hours and then concentrated under reduced pressure to provide the crude thiazolium salt. 1H NMR (300 MHz, DMSO-d6) δ 0.95 (t, J=7 Hz, 3H), 1.39 (sextet, J=7 Hz, 2H), 1.65 (m, 2H), 2.43 (s, 6H), 2.96 (s, 3H), 4.25 (m, 2H).
