Procedure

This compound was made from 1-(3,5-dimethoxy-4-i-propylphenyl)-2-phenylpropene (11) and BBr3 in 63% yield by the same procedure as described in example 1(c). 1HNMR (CDCl3, ppm): δ 1.42 (d, J=7.0 Hz, 6H), 2.32 (d, J=1.4 Hz, 3H), 3.49 (hept., J=7.0 Hz, 1H), 4.71 (s, 2H), 6.39 (s, 2H), 6.67 (m, 1H), 7.58-7.33 (m, 5H).
