To a solution of 2-phenyl-cyclohexanone (10.0 g, 57 mmol) in CHCl3 (20 mL) at −10° C. a solution of bromine (9.6 g, 3.1 mL, 60 mmol) in CHCl3 (10 mL) was added and the reaction mixture was allowed to warm to 0° C. After for 2 hours the solvent was evaporated, methanol (30 mL) was added to the residue, cooled to 0° C., stirred for 30 minutes and the white solid was filtered off to give the title compound as a white solid (5.48 g, 38%).
