2-(4-Chlorophenyl)ethanamine (2.3 ml, 16 mmol) was diluted with DCM (40 mL) followed by the addition of DIEA (2.9 ml, 16 mmol) and 4-chloro-3-nitrobenzoyl chloride (3.0 g, 14 mmol) dropwise in 10 mL of DCM. After stirring for 30 minutes the reaction was loaded directly onto a silica gel column and eluted with hexanes:ethyl acetate (2:1) to yield N-(4-chlorophenethyl)-4-chloro-3-nitrobenzamide (4.0 g, 86% yield) as a white solid.
