To a cold (0° C.) solution of 2-(3,4-dimethoxy-phenoxy)-ethylamine (2.3 g, 11.8 mmol) in anhydrous THF (21 ml), were added TEA (1.4 ml, 19.2 mmol) and portionwise 3,4-dimethoxyphenylacetylchloride (2.49 g, 11.6 mmol). The resulting mixture was stirred at RT for 20 h under nitrogen. The mixture was combined with H2O and extracted three times with CH2Cl2. The combined organic phases were dried over anhydrous MgSO4, filtered and concentrated to give a crude solid. Recrystallisation from diethylether gave the title product (3.59 g, 80%) as a white solid.
